We have made a description of the different roles of our volunteers to give you a better idea of what you could be doing. If you have other skills and ideas, or you would like to combine roles, we would also be delighted to hear from you.

Job description

Your main role will be to undertake primary healthcare consultations in different settings each day. We will be operating a mobile clinic throughout various centres and accommodation hot spots in Opole and its surrounding regions. It is currently uncertain how many patients you will see per day, as the project is only beginning. However, main roles will be managing both chronic and acute health issues such as gynaecological problems, blood pressure management, diabetes care and a whole other range of healthcare needs. The majority of the patients will be Women and Children so experience is these areas is a great asset.

During the first few weeks you will have to be flexible and adaptable, as we will be changing how we work to how best suits each environment. There will also need to be some time spent stocking the mobile units and driving to the locations, so it is useful to keep this in mind. The more senior you are, the more you will be involved in supervising the younger staff.

Required experience and skills

  • Experience in a broad specialty such as general practice, pediatrics, internal medicine or emergency medicine
  • Interest and knowledge of primary healthcare
  • Capable of adapting to a low resource setting, knowing how to deal with the frustrations that come with work in this kind of setting
  • Fluency in English

Desired experience and skills

  • Previous experience with working with displaced people
  • A driving license
  • Knowledge of another language (e.g. Polish, Russian, Ukrainian)
  • An interest in Mental health and Women's health as these are two very prevalent issues with the current war in Ukraine.

Job description

As a nurse or paramedic it is currently uncertain how much direct nursing work there will be in our mobile units in Poland. It is expected that you are to be very flexible and willing to work in a variety of roles. Nurses can be expected to undertake vital signs and observations, wound care, triage, pharmacy roles, health promotion and many other roles that may be required.

Required experience and skills

  • Experience in or knowledge of primary health care.
  • Experience in wound dressing OR experience in assessing patients on your own in order to adequately triage them
  • Capable of working independently, while knowing your professional limits and asking for help if needed
  • Fluency in English.

Desired experience and skills

  • Previous experience with working with displaced people
  • Knowledge of another language e.g. Russian, Polish, Ukrainian.
  • Work experience in sexual health, women's health, mental health or with children is expected to be great asset

Job description

As a medical student you will be expected to work closely with the team of doctors. For example helping them triage patients and depending on your experience potentially undertake a large part of the consultation yourself, and then to consult with the doctor and discuss the patient. It is expected that medical students will be in the later stages of their training. At present the exact day to day running and types of cases you will see is uncertain, but it is useful if you are happy to adapt and be flexible to whatever is needed!

Required experience and skills

  • You are in the last years of your medical studies, having completed a significant part of your medical internships. You know how to assess a patient on your own and present a patient to your supervisor. You can recognize an acutely sick patient.
  • You will have a lot of responsibility, assessing patients on your own. You should be capable of working independently. More importantly you should be capable of indicating your professional limits.

  • Experience with working with people from displaced populations
  • Knowledge of another language e.g. Polish, Russian or Ukrainian.

Job description

As the charity grows we are in need of someone to support the clinic to manage its’ medications, be a source of medicines information for the team, and deliver medication related consultations to the patients where needed.

Following induction the pharmacists duty in the clinic would be as follows:

● Managing the medicine stock in the clinic through daily top-up and weekly medicine ordering with the local pharmacy .

● Coordinating the receipt of medicine donations and organising the pharmacy storage to create a safe and efficient working environment.

● Provide medicine advice/support to nurses, doctors and medical students

● To see patients for medicine refill of symptomatic treatments, chronic medicine reviews such as blood pressure checks and other patient consults e.g issuing scabies treatments ( depending on clinical experience)

● To assist in improvements in the clinics related to medicines such as guidelines or system changes

Required experience and skills

Degree in Pharmacy

Fluency in English

Realisation that this is an intense job in a resource limited setting where flexibility, patience, team-work and adaptability is needed

Desired experience and skills

Previous experience working or volunteering with displaced or vulnerable people

Knowledge of Polish, Ukrainian or Russian.

Clinical diploma

Experience of leading a team, pharmacy management or clinical hospital pharmacy

Further information

The working hours will be during the day and you may be required to start at 7am. You will most likely be the only pharmacist so should be confident to be able to take lead on medicine related issues with the support of the coordinators where needed.


Job description

As a translator you will be the link between the patient and the medic. In medicine communication is everything, and you will ensure that all information comes across to both parties without making yourself a central part of the conversation. Translating medical consultations is an intense job for which you need a lot of patience. Due to circumstances patients might be unfocused, frustrated, angry, or emotional in a different way. You will see many patients with mental health problems which might cause consultations to be heavy. Patients will share stories that might affect you a lot. Everything that is discussed inside the consultation room is confidential and shouldn't be shared with anyone else. As a team, we will always do everything in our power to support each other when someone feels the need to share feelings that are caused by the work.

Required experience and skills

  • Fluent in Ukrainian or Russian for medical consultations
  • Additionally we are looking for Polish translators to help our operations on the ground
  • Fluent in English
  • Capable of staying professional when medical consultations become emotional and tough

Desired experience and skills

  • Previous experience with working with displaced people
  • Previous experience with interpreting
  • Knowledge of health problems in patients with a refugee background

Under the direct management of the Program Manager, the medical coordinator organizes and ensures an efficient implementation of the medical activities and supervise all related aspects :

  • Be the focal point for all medical issues
  • Ensure smooth integration of medical volunteers
  • Ensure the respect of the medical procedures and propose improvement of processes
  • Ensure the management and capacity building of the medical team
  • Regular contact with other NGOs
  • Liaison with the local health centers
  • Main focal point for the pharmacy stock and orders

As a key position, we ask for a minimum of 3 months commitment.

Required experience and skills

Mandatory:

  • Medical Doctor or Nurse/Nurse practitioner, with at least 2 years of work experience
  • Experience working in similar environments
  • Fluency in English
  • Adaptability to changing circumstances
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience in leading a team

Job description

Responsibilities and task descriptions:

  • Advertise new positions
  • Implement existing processes for recruitment and on-boarding of new volunteers (registration and evaluation of applications, interviews, scheduling, travel and accommodation logistics, volunteer induction, evaluation of trial period, exit interviews, etc)
  • In liaison with Medical Coordinator and Project Manager, organize volunteer schedules
  • Look out for the well-being and functioning of all our volunteers
  • Ensure professional behaviour and respect of MET code of conduct by all volunteers
  • Ensure the confidentiality of all HR data and information according to MET’s processes

Willingness to contribute to other aspects of MET’s activities, and particularly to contribute to MET’s social media activities will be greatly appreciated.
