Job description

Your daily task will consist of functioning as clinic leader:

  • Making sure the short-term volunteers find their way around the clinic. Answering logistical questions. Supervising the medical students and the nurses in triage. Following up on complex cases. Coordinating the referrals to hospital.
  • You will be responsible (together with the pharmacist if available) for the logistics of the pharmacy and medical equipment: Keeping track of the stock and placing orders or organising donations on time.
  • You will be responsible for the well-being and functioning of the medical team.
  • You will be responsible for coordinating any extra-clinical medical activities and projects: Such as first-aid trainings, health workshops or any thing else you would like to get into.
  • You will attend relevant meetings with other NGOs and coordinate with other NGOs when medically relevant.
  • Together with the project manager you will attend meetings with other medical stakeholders on Samos.

Required experience and skills

  • Medical Doctor with at least 2 years of work experience as a doctor.
  • Experience working in similar environments is preferable
  • And of course: You enjoy adapting to changing circumstances, you like helping a constant stream of new medics, you enjoy chaotic environments

Job description

Your tasks will revolve around our constantly changing team of around 40 volunteers:

  • Managing contact with aspiring volunteers
  • Organising applications of volunteers
  • Welcoming new international volunteers to Samos
  • Welcoming and training our community volunteers
  • Organising the schedules
  • Looking out for the well-being and functioning of all our volunteers

Required experience and skills

You enjoy making volunteers feel at home, you feel comfortable discussing problems in the team, you are happy hosting team meetings and get excited thinking about excel sheets.

Desired experience and skills

A background in HR or related field is preferred.

Job description

Your main job will be to see about 5 patients per day in consultation after they have been triaged. On some days you will see patients on our chronic patients list: regulating bloodplessure medication, insuline etc. Some days will consist of triaging at the door, deciding who should be seen today and who can come back the next - a demanding job. The more senior you are, the more you will be involved in supervising the younger staff.

You will have to flexible, stepping in for triage when our team of med students and nurses is low in staff, or filling prescriptions on moments when we do not have a pharmacist.

Required experience and skills

  • Experience in a broad specialty such as general practice, pediatrics, internal medicine or emergency medicine
  • Interest and knowledge of primary healthcare
  • Capable of adapting to a low resource setting, knowing how to deal with the frustrations that come with work in this kind of setting
  • Fluency in English

Desired experience and skills

  • Previous experience with working with displaced people
  • Knowledge of another language spoken by people in the camp is very much appreciated (e.g. Arabic, Farsi, French)
  • An interest in mental health. The prevalence of mental health problems in the camp is very high.

Job description

As a nurse there are generally two jobs you could be doing depending on your back ground. One is wound dressing: we have many patients coming in for repeated dressings of their wounds, that often get heavily infected. We also commonly see burns. The other is triaging all the patients that come in where you will decide if it is a minor issue for which you will give some symptomatic treatment, or if it is a more complex case that should be evaluated by a doctor in a more extensive consultation.

Required experience and skills

  • Experience in or knowledge of primary health care.
  • Experience in wound dressing OR experience in assessing patients on your own in order to adequately triage them
  • Capable of working independently, while knowing your professional limits and asking for help if needed
  • Fluency in English.

Desired experience and skills

  • If you are interested in doing wound dressing you should be able to adapt easily and be creative.
  • Previous experience with working with displaced people
  • Knowledge of another language spoken by people in the camp is very much appreciated (e.g. Arabic, Farsi, French)

Job description

As a medical student you will be triaging about 20 patients per day. You will decide if it is a minor issue for which you will give some symptomatic treatment, or if it is a more complex case that should be evaluated by a doctor in a more extensive consultation. For every patient you should get supervision from a doctor. When the work is done you are welcome to join the doctors doing consultations or assist the nurses doing wound dressing.

Required experience and skills

  • You are in the last years of your medical studies, having completed a significant part of your medical internships. You know how to assess a patient on your own and present a patient to your supervisor. You can recognize an acutely sick patient.
  • You will have a lot of responsibility, assessing patients on your own. You should be capable of working independently. More importantly you should be capable of indicating your professional limits.

Job description

As the charity grows we are in need of someone to support the clinic to manage its’ medications, be a source of medicines information for the team, and deliver medication related consultations to the patients where needed.

Following induction the pharmacists duty in the clinic would be as follows:

● Managing the medicine stock in the clinic through daily top-up and weekly medicine ordering with the local pharmacy .

● Coordinating the receipt of medicine donations and organising the pharmacy storage to create a safe and efficient working environment.

● Provide medicine advice/support to nurses, doctors and medical students

● To see patients for medicine refill of symptomatic treatments, chronic medicine reviews such as blood pressure checks and other patient consults e.g issuing scabies treatments ( depending on clinical experience)

● To assist in improvements in the clinics related to medicines such as guidelines or system changes

Required experience and skills

Degree in Pharmacy

Fluency in English

Realisation that this is an intense job in a resource limited setting where flexibility, patience, team-work and adaptability is needed

Desired experience and skills

Previous experience working or volunteering with displaced or vulnerable people

Knowledge of French, Greek, Farsi or Arabic

Clinical diploma

Experience of leading a team, pharmacy management or clinical hospital pharmacy

Further information

The working hours will be during the day and you may be required to start at 7am. You will most likely be the only pharmacist so should be confident to be able to take lead on medicine related issues with the support of the coordinators where needed.


Job description

Our physiotherapist will see patients that have been specially referred from our doctors and nurses, and operate by fixed appointments. Additionally our physiotherapist can be called to evaluate patients in the case of orthopaedic emergencies. There is also the possibility to organise group treatments and to develop some prevention or education programs, in coordination with other NGOs on the island.

Our physiotherapists work with many different pathologies; including orthopaedic, neurology, paediatric, respiratory physiotherapy, and some functional syndromes or psychosomatic pain. They see both acute and chronic disorders.

Required experience and skills

  • Experience as a general practitioner with strong experience in orthopaedics, acute and chronic pathology evaluation, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Some experience in neurology, respiratory physiotherapy and podiatry are a plus.
  • Good communication skills for education on pain management (biopsychosocial pain models).

Desired experience and skills

  • At least two years experience as a general practitioner would be a plus
  • Ability to work autonomously and make decisions. You will have to work with few resources and often with no imagery support from your patients.
  • Realisation that this is an intense job with where a lot of patience, flexibility, creativity and teamwork will be asked of you.

Further information

Outside of the opening hours of the clinic, all team members will be involved in medical logistics and administration.

This includes working on the patient information system and referrals, ensure the pharmacy is stocked and making sure patients are handed over well to the hospital or other health care providers.


Job description

We have a basic ultrasound with a vascular and cardiac probe. We rarely have doctors coming through who know how to perform ultrasounds, so having someone who can do them for short periods of time would be very helpful! We have many patients with chronic issues who do not have access to hospital consultations, for whom having a better picture of their disease would be helpful, such as patients with longstanding kidney stones, abdominal hernias, palpable masses etc.

Required experience and skills

  • You should be able to perform a wide array of ultrasounds independently
  • You should be able to give a diagnostic report as we don't have any radiologists on board

Desired experience and skills

  • Being flexible and willing to help with other tasks when not performing ultrasounds

Job description

As a translator you will be the link between the patient and the medic. In medicine communication is everything, and you will ensure that all information comes across to both parties without making yourself a central part of the conversation. Translating medical consultations is an intense job for which you need a lot of patience. Due to circumstances patients might be unfocused, frustrated, angry, or emotional in a different way. You will see many patients with mental health problems which might cause consultations to be heavy. Patients will share stories that might affect you a lot. Everything that is discussed inside the consultation room is confidential and shouldn't be shared with anyone else. As a team, we will always do everything in our power to support each other when someone feels the need to share feelings that are caused by the work.

Required experience and skills

  • Fluent in French, Arabic or Farsi, since these are the most spoken languages. If besides one of the above mentioned languages you also speak Sorani, Kurmanji, Pashto, Urdu, Somali, Amharic, Tigrinya or other languages that are spoken in the camp please mention it!
  • Fluent in English
  • Capable of staying professional when medical consultations become emotional and tough

  • Previous experience with working with displaced people
  • Previous experience with interpreting
  • Knowledge of health problems in patients with a refugee background

Job description

The receptionist manages the registration of patients, the scanning of consultation papers, the coordination of the reception room, and manages the appointments and coordinating the referral system of the clinic. This person ensures the whole stability and functioning of the system during the opening hour of the clinic, by having a global perspective of the progress of the triages and consultations, as well as keeping an eye on the availability of medics, translators and consultation rooms.

Importantly, the receptionist will develop an oversight of patient interactions with the clinic, which helps to ensure continuity of care for patients.

Required experience and skills

  • Multitasking, very good organisation skills
  • A polite and direct manner with respect to crowd control
  • Ability to direct people and doesn’t hesitate to take the lead
  • Basic computer skills needed, no medical knowledge needed
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to keep an awareness of clinic flow
  • French, Farsi, Arabic or Greek is a plus

Further information

You will never be left alone in doing this job. You will be trained prior to taking charge of the reception, but you will be supported by coordinators for difficult situations. Most of the time, a translator will be present to help mediate patient interactions. Furthermore, a doctor is always present on reception.
