Whenever possible we offer accommodation in shared flats, however, during busy times you may have to find your own accommodation in Thessaloniki.

Job description

The Field Coordinator is a key member of Med’EqualiTeam coordination team, responsible for the finances, logistics, non-medical admin, and managing relationships with other actors in the field. The Field Coordinator is also an active participant in internal and external reporting, as well acting as a focal point on the ground in terms of Safety, Security and Safeguarding.

The Field Coordinator is directly answerable to and supervised by the Project Coordinator, with whom they work closely with to ensure that the projects objectives are met, and the organisation’s policies are upheld. The role also involves a close collaboration with the Medical Coordinator in facilitating the needs of the clinical activities. The Field Co is the direct supervisor of the Volunteer Coordinator and of the Interpretation Team.

As a key position, we ask for a minimum of 6 months commitment. The starting date is ideally on June 3rd with 2 weeks of handover with the current field coordinator. A starting date later in June or beginning of July is possible but less preferable.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Finances:

Paying bills and administering financial resources in the field

Monitoring and Registering Project Expenses

Logistics:

Procurement and maintenance of non-medical equipment/material.

Managing Vehicle(s) and Accommodation (follow-up, organise maintenance)

Planning, oversight and maintenance of our operational spaces

Maintaining IT & Communication Systems at field level.

Relations with Other Actors:

Focal point in relationships to Operational Partners

Represent MET on non-clinical matters in engagements with external actors

Focal point for Donors and Financial Partners at field level

Develop new partnerships

Admin & Reporting:

Create, review and update internal documentation

Contributing contextual information, project updates and narratives for donor reports.

Managing safe storage and management of sensitive information and project documentation at field level.

Safety, Security, and Safeguarding:

Manage on-site security for clinical operations

Develop, update, and monitor implementation of general and site-specific safety protocols and risk assessments

On-Site Safeguarding Focal Point

Interpreters:

On-boarding and line management of community and remote volunteers for interpretation at clinics.

Required experience and skills

  • At least 1-2 years experience in coordination roles, preferably within the humanitarian sector.
  • Strong communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • A high degree of personal organization and the ability to manage multiple workflows concurrently.
  • Highly flexible with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and provide effective leadership in stressful situations.
  • Strong proficiency in IT systems; including spreadsheets, word processing, and cloud based data management
  • Strong commitment to humanitarian principles and an understanding of the challenges faced by refugees in an international migration context.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Driving licence B

Desired experience and skills

  • University degree in project management, admin or similar field
  • Professional experience in planning, budgeting, administration and logistics.
  • Experience in risk and safety management, with a strong understanding of safeguarding practices and principles.
  • Experience in the Greek context is an asset
  • Fluency in Greek
  • Ability to communicate in key languages such as Arabic and Farsi are an asset.

Further information

We will be able to offer travel expenses, health insurance, stipend and accommodation in a single room in the volunteer flat.

Please note that this is a voluntary position, which comes with a basic stipend to cover living expenses. Unfortunately, we cannot offer a salary.

Job description

Your main role will be to undertake primary healthcare consultations in different settings each day. Your main tasks will be managing acute health issues and a whole other range of healthcare needs. As of today, chronic diseases is not part of our scope so we refer patients with diabetes and high blood pressure, but a knowledge of management is helpful to assess and explain the patient.

Throughout your stay with us, you will have to be flexible and adaptable as we are constantly adapting our services to refugee needs. You will also be required to help with other tasks to keep the operation going, such as restocking the mobile units and other support tasks.

Required experience and skills

  • Ideally at least 2 years of experience in a broad speciality such as general practice, paediatrics, internal medicine or emergency medicine.
  • Interest and knowledge of primary health care.
  • Capable of adapting to a low resource setting, knowing how to deal with the frustrations that come with work in this kind of setting.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Availability of at least 2 full working weeks, ideally more. Preference will be given to applications with longer stays.

Job description

25% of our consultations are paediatric, with 10% of those consultations involving children under the age of 4 years old. Having a pediatrician on our team makes a big difference in the specialised care that we can offer the children in our clinics! Your main role will be to undertake consultations for children, in a different setting each day. You will be managing their diagnosis and treatment.

Required experience and skills

  • Ideally at least 2 years of experience in paediatrics - people in a Paediatric Training Program such as Paediatric Intern or Registrar, or Consultant
  • Capable of adapting to a low resource setting, knowing how to deal with the frustrations that come with work in this kind of setting.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Availability of at least 2 full working weeks, ideally more. Preference will be given to applicants available for longer periods

Job description

Nurses can be expected to undertake vital signs and observations, wound care, triage, pharmacy roles, health promotion and many other roles that may be required.

Required experience and skills

  • Experience in or knowledge of primary health care (Nurse Practitioner welcomed to apply).
  • Experience in wound dressing or experience in assessing patients on your own in order to adequately triage them.
  • Capable of working independently, while knowing your professional limits and asking for help if needed.
  • Fluency in English.

As a medical student you will be expected to work closely with the team of doctors and support them with various tasks. Depending on your experience, you may undertake a large part of the consultation yourself, and then consult with the doctor and discuss the patient, especially for medical students in the later stages of their training.

Throughout your stay with us, you will have to be flexible and adaptable as we are constantly adapting our services to refugee needs. You will also be required to help with other tasks to keep the operation going, such as restocking the mobile units and other support tasks.

  • You are in the last years of your medical studies, having completed a significant part of your medical internships. You know how to assess a patient on your own and present a patient to your supervisor. You can recognize an acutely sick patient.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Capable of adapting to a low resource setting, knowing how to deal with the frustrations that come with work in this kind of setting.
  • Availability of at least 3 full working weeks, ideally more. Preference will be given to applications with longer stays.

Job description

Are you interested in improving the health of vulnerable refugee communities through education and empowerment?

We are seeking a health(care) professional with an interest in training and education to support the coordination team in the health education branch of our medical project in Greece; where we offer first aid sessions for NGO partners and health education sessions to displaced communities across northern Greece. This role is a great opportunity to develop your health education development and implementation skills and use your medical experience or health background to contribute to preventative health measures in an effort to empower the displaced community.

Role description

  • Plan and organise first aid trainings and health education sessions with partner NGOs around Northern Greece
  • Lead in developing and delivering sessions with support of the general medical volunteer team (e.g., designing of training materials where necessary)
  • Work with the Health Education Coordinator and Medical Coordinator to shape the strategy of health education and training
  • Gather feedback from attendees to improve the service

Required experience and skills

  • Health(care) professional or student in a health field
  • Capable of working independently, while knowing your professional limits and asking for help if needed

Job description

Our translators are the crucial bridge between our patients and medical staff, enabling communication between refugees and English-speaking volunteers. Interpreters are responsible for translating the patient’s reason for visiting the clinic as well as questions from the medical staff designed to elicit the full range and extent of the patient’s symptoms. In the course of a consultation, the translator facilitates understanding the patient’s problems and concerns, basic, physical examinations, communicating the doctor’s medical opinion, treatment, and providing next steps.

You do not need any previous experience as a translator, and it is not expected that you have prior medical knowledge. There are several tools to assist you in using the most appropriate vocabulary to translate the doctor’s questions and the patient’s responses.

Required experience and skills

  • Fluency in Arabic, Farsi, Urdu or Pashto.
  • Good spoken skills in English.

  • Previous experience with working with displaced people.
  • Previous experience with interpreting, especially for medical consultations.

Job description

We are looking for someone to focus on social media management for which the following tasks are included:

  • Animation and creation of posts and visuals on social networks
  • Collecting visual material from the field (pictures, videos..)
  • Developing and maintaining the post schedule
  • Improving the visibility of posts
  • Designing and managing a crowdfunding campaign
  • Newsletter management

This role can be remote, however it is ideal when we have someone on the ground for this. As this is a part-time position, it can be coupled with another role depending on your skills and interest: translator, admin/log support, health education.

Required experience and skills

  • High level of written and spoken English (C1)
  • Previous experience working with Canva
  • At least some experience or strong interest in managing social networks
  • Interest in working in a multicultural team

We have guidelines regarding social media and visual content gathering, which will be explained to you. A handover with the previous person handling the social media will be organised as well.

Job description

We are looking for non-medical volunteers on the ground to focus on logistics and support to the medical team, with the following tasks:

1) Support patient registration at clinic receptions

  • Welcoming patients and completely the necessary paperwork
  • Managing waiting lists and patient allocation

2) Driving the van

  • Driving the medical team to and from clinic sites (3-hour drive for the longest distance)
  • Handling and monitoring the underlying costs (gas, tolls, potential repairs at the car garage)

3) Supporting the coordinators with admin and logistics support :

  • Purchase non-medical furnitures, stock management
  • Support in administrative filling

This is a part-time role, and can be coupled with another position depending on your skills and interest: social media, translator, health education.

  • A high level of personal organization and flexibility
  • Medium to high IT proficiency
  • Interest in working in a multicultural team

Further information

Regarding the reception tasks, a proper safety and induction training will be insured after your arrival. You will never be left alone in doing this job, doctors and coordinators are always present. Most of the time, a translator will be present to help mediate patient interactions.
